LANDING PAGE

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of a landing page is to generate lead attraction, drive a focused action, and grab viewer’s attention. The goal of this phase is to create a landing page that visually intices users with the most important features of the app whether it is information of the AI or the aesthetic visuals that accompany it. The landing page should have a hero page, call to action, and information about what AI features are within the app. A successful landing page leads to users taking action and downloading the app to try it out. Half of the work is designing the solution. The other half is attracting and convincing users to try it out. I took the most interesting elements of my app and designed a landing page to grab their attention by pointing out what solution I have to offer to their decorating problems.

AI USAGE

When designing the landing page, I did not use any AI as a collaborator or element. The reason for this is because the approach I wanted to take was simple and didn’t require any other elements of photo generation or analysis to achieve. I created a landing page that is simple in visuals. It only contains a bold type, simplistic vocabulary, photos, and app elements that have already been created or generated.

I designed the landing page with a hero image at the top to immediately show what kind of home users could have when they use my app. This visual is interesting and initially attractive. To pair with the image I used bold typography and a slogan unique to my app:

Scan. Style. Settle In.

Along the rest of the landing page is a brief description of every AI feature offered along with a graphic element to give visual indications in the chance that the language is hard to understand. At the top and bottom of the page is a CTA: DOWNLOAD

CHALLENGES

During this phase, the only challenge I faced was navigating how to create an interesting page that was both simple, but had enough information to draw an audience in. I have to be intentional about what information I place on the page because too much will drive users away, not enough doesn’t draw them in enough, and the wrong words can confuse. I also struggled with creating visual interest without over crowding the page or leaving too much empty space.

BENEFITS

While creating the landing page, I learned a lot about how people understand and respond to information. I already knew a bit about attention spans, but it put into perspective how sneaky web designers have to be with what they put on their pages. Like I said before, there can’t be too much or too little information. We are simple beings, but have such short attention/interest spans that even one off putting element will turn us away. I learned a lot about human response that will help me in the future of my design career.

REFLECTION

If I could do anything differently, I would have asked ChatGPT for different ways to draw attention to the call to action. I would have utilized it as a collaborative tool in ideating how to make the page interesting. With such an extensive knowledge of user experience, AI would have useful suggestions about how to arrange the visual elements and what wording receives the best feedback.
